The people who are willing to go live on space stations or who volunteer to crew exploratory ships, like those of us who served on submarines or in other extreme environments, are decidedly and extraordinarily NON-representative of the Human Race as a whole.  And we tend to be a fairly insular and egotistical subset of the Race, to boot.  How does this skew First Contact scenarios?
